Canada holds the third largest oil reserves in the world that are mostly located in Alberta as oil sands deposits. Numerous oil sand extraction and processing facilities have been built over the last decade to access those reserves. Despite oil price volatility, oil sand extraction, processing, and refining facilities continue to expand across Alberta.
Due to challenging economic times and opening of the Canadian market to global competition, new oil sand processing facilities are being built using larger amounts of pressure components, piping spools, vessels, and piping/equipment modules that are fabricated overseas and installed in Alberta in lieu of domestic fabrication.
The presentation explores several quality challenges and associated risks with overseas supplied pressure component fabricated products.
